Donald Choi graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, major in Bass Trombone and Bass Tuba. He had been awarded numerous scholarships in academy. His teacher included Dr. Denson Paul Pollard ( Metropolitan Opera Orchestra ), Scott Hartman ( Empire Brass ), James Olin ( Baltimore Symphony Orchestra ), Peter Sullivan ( Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra ) and Roland Szpentali (Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra ).
During 1997 to 2002, he joined Asian Youth Orchestra and performed in Asia, Europe, Canada and United States. Donald participated in Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and Malaysia International Festival Orchestra, "Bee Gees’ Robin Gibb Asian Tour", "The Sound of Music" , "Peter Pan". He performed with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong and Hong Kong Oratorio Society frequently. As a Orchestra conductor in Music Office Outreach Interest Class programme.
He was invited as Bass Trombonist in “ Fiesta Trombone Quartet “ with Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Trombone section and performed in school educational concerts. In 2005 and 2006, he was the faulty in Taiwan Trombone Seminar. Donald is a part time tutor and performer in Music Office over 20 years. In 2012 and 2014, he was invited as the brass adjudicator of The 30th and 32nd Macao Youth Musicians Competition
