Chan Chiu-yin is a seasoned music administrator, founder and the executive director of the Windpipe Chinese Music Ensemble in Hong Kong. He is currently an honorary committee member of the China Dizi Society, an committee member of the Dizi Society of the Chinese Musicians’ Association, an honorary executive committee member of the Guangdong Dizi Society, an executive member of the Cantonese Music Art Centre, an executive member of the Hong Kong Bamboo Flute Society, the part-time instructor of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the resident conductor of The Hong Kong YWCA Chinese Orchestra.
Chan graduated from the Hong Kong Baptist University and the Education University of Hong Kong, holds a Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree, majoring in Geography, Mathematics and Music. He has also taken Arts Administration and Musicology courses at the University of Hong Kong School of Professional and Continuing Education, and the Modern Distance Music Education College of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing respectively. Chan began learning dizi under Wong Ka-wai in early years. He furthered his training in Mainland China under masters including Li Zhen, Zeng Yongqing, Yu Xunfa, Jiang Guoji and Dai Ya in a bid to improve his technical knowhow of the art of dizi. Chan was also coached by houguan, suona and Cantonese Music maestro Chen Tianshou.
Chan has committed to promoting Chinese music culture of Hong Kong and Chinese flute music culture. Besides music performance and education, He has long been engaged in arts administration, curate and production. Chan has visited more than 40 cities in Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania for cultural exchange and music performances.
