Chang Hsin Hsin

Self Photos / Files - CHang Hsin Hsin 張馨心 1Cellist Hsinhsin Chang was born in an artist family in Taiwan. Her mother is a famous Taiwanese choreographer Moshi Liao. Hsinhsin started her piano lessons at the age of 5. When she was 10, she passed the entrance examination of the music talent class of Yongfu Primary School in Tainan, Taiwan and commenced to study cello. Four years later, she obtained the full

scholarship of Cross Road High School in Los Angeles, USA. In 1986, Hisnhsin entered the music talent class of National Tainan Girl’s Senior High School and won the first prize of the National Cello Competition of Taiwan the next year.

 

In the year of 1990, Hsinhsin studied cello in Manhattan School of Music (MSM) in the city of New York through the strong recommendation from the well-known Prof. Marion Feldman. During Hsinhsin’s study in MSM, she obtained the merit scholarship every year and often played as cello principal in the Manhattan School of Music Symphony Orchestra. Meanwhile, she

actively stayed on the stage of various chamber music performances. In 1991, Hsinhsin was recommended by MSM to attend the Seventh Music Festival of the 20th Century organized by the New York Times and did the solo play of the Sixteen Dances by the famous composer John Cage. Two years later, Hsinhsin was introduced by Chinese well-known composer Dr. Huang Yong Xi to hold the baton of the choir conductor of the New York Riverside Church Chinese Christian Fellowship.

 

During the years in MSM, Hisnhisn studied cello under Prof. Marion Feldman, Prof. Nathan Stuch, and Prof. Nathanial Rosen ( the first American first prize winner in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky International Competition ). After she completed the graduate school study, Hsinhsin returned to Taiwan and taught cello in the music department of many universities and the talent class of many primary schools and high schools.

 

In 1998, she founded the Shi Yin Chamber Orchestra and kept 6-8 solo or chamber music tour performances yearly since then. A year later, she joined the Yinqi Symphony Orchestra and Chorus as cello principal. During 1995-2006, she was often invited to be the judge for various national music competitions.

 

In the year of 2001, Hsinhsin acknowledged Anatoly Pavlovitch Nikitin, the Russian famous cellist, as her master in St. Petersburg and were highly recognized by him. In 2006, Hisnhisn moved to Hong Kong. By way of the recommendation from Professor Wang Lei, she has been teaching cello in the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Art (HKAPA) ever since then.
